Mandatory Consultation

Has your department just offered a permanent teaching position to an international citizen? Congratulations on a successful search! Now it's time to set up a mandatory immigration consultation.

This meeting is required for all foreign nationals accepting permanent teaching positions—including tenure-track faculty, lecturers, instructors, and other teaching staff with an expectation of permanent employment.

You Do the Scheduling

The department is responsible for scheduling the consultation with International Services, department representatives, and the incoming scholar (with spouse or partner, if desired).

Please contact us as soon as your department's offer has been accepted to set up the meeting. Failure to schedule a timely immigration consultation denies your new hire essential support and may result in critical immigration deadlines missed.

During the consultation, International Services will discuss H-1B or other nonimmigrant visa statuses and Cornell-sponsored permanent residency options. The attending department representative should be prepared to answer questions about visa support timing and fee payment.
