Guidance: Keep ID and Important Documents Handy in Case They Are Needed

January 31, 2025

Detailed information on what to do if external (non-Cornell) law enforcement arrives is now on the Information on Executive Orders website. This is a rapidly evolving situation, and we understand that our students and scholars are concerned about what documentation to have on hand.

We recommend that all students carry some form of photo ID (i.e., school ID, driver's license). If you are an international student or scholar and in the U.S. in F-1, J-1, or other visa status, we additionally recommend that you have an image or PDF of your I-94 record of entry on your phone or know how to access it online.

Know where to locate these emergency numbers:

  1. International Services: +1 607-255-5243 (8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.)
  2. Cornell University Police Department (CUPD): +1 607-255-5111
  3. If arrested or held at a U.S. Border, call our International SOS hotline at +1 215 942-8478 and reference Cornell's membership number: 11BSCA827281.

The Get Advice page has these numbers and additional contact information.

We will continue to monitor the situation and provide additional guidance as new information becomes available.
