What is Ithaca like?

While Ithaca has a comfortable, small-town feel, it also offers social and cultural opportunities, indoors and out. Ithaca is a college town, and you’re likely to find that many of your neighbors work at Cornell University or Ithaca College. New Ithacans often enjoy discovering local music and theater, shops, restaurants, community festivals, and the farmers’ market.

Nature is a big part of life in Ithaca. The city is on Cayuga Lake, one of New York State’s Finger Lakes, where you can swim or go boating. You can walk along one of the many gorges carved long ago by glaciers. Or hike, mountain bike, ski, and explore in our many public parks and forests.
