Cornell is located in Ithaca, New York. Ithaca is in the scenic Finger Lakes region of New York at the southern tip of Cayuga Lake. Ithaca is home to 30,000 residents and another 30,000 students at Cornell and Ithaca College.

Will I like Ithaca?

While Ithaca has a comfortable, small-town feel, it also offers many social and cultural opportunities, indoors and out. It is a college town, with both Cornell University and Ithaca College, and students are a large part of the population. There is so much to do: music and theater, shops, restaurants, community festivals, a farmers’ market. 

Nature is a big part of life in Ithaca. The city is on Cayuga Lake, one of New York State’s Finger Lakes, where you can swim or go boating. You can walk along one of the many gorges carved long ago by glaciers. Or hike, mountain bike, ski, and explore in our many public parks and forests. 

Is Ithaca near New York City?

Ithaca is in New York State, not New York City! Cornell’s convenient Campus-to-Campus bus service runs between the main campus in Ithaca and Cornell Tech in New York City. The trip takes about five hours.

Travel by Air

Choose among four regional airports, all located within an hour of Ithaca. New York metro area airports are another option. Daily flights are available between New York City and Ithaca.

Travel by Bus

Campus-to-Campus Bus, OurBus, Greyhound, Coach USA (Shortline/Megabus), Flix Bus and Trailways NY offer daily travel options between Ithaca and the New York metro area, in addition to other locations nearby Ithaca.
